• Hi Everyone

I’ve been using WordPress for a quite a few sites, and each site gets a little easier to build. However, I still haven’t quite found a really super clean and semantic theme as a starting point for the next site I want to build.

The Classic theme is obviously much cleaner than Kubrick, but I was hoping that someone might suggest a theme that is an even better base to build on.

If you have any recommendations, fire away!

  • Ugh, yeah… not kubrick.

I hear sandbox is the one all the cool kids start with, but I’ve yet to have a chance to check it out.

See, I used Kubrick as the base for my site (because I didn’t know any better at the time) and it went just fine. My site’s pretty clean and semantic (XHTML 1.0 Transitional, too, and I could switch to Strict if I wanted to). It’s all a matter of how much work you want to put in to any theme renaming CLASSes and IDs, moving things around. No matter what, that’s going to where you pour in the real work.

Figure out your own layout using static files so you know what you want to call things and how you want to structure the code. Then work on imposing that structure on some other theme. But get your own structure down, first.

Or just use sandbox as a nice place to start.
