• This was previously deleted from the ideas forum where it was perfectly relevant, so I’ll try posting my feedback here where it is also relevant:

For a long time now the only complaint I’ve really had with WordPress is that wp is quite literally crammed down our throats at every corner.

It’s not that I have any shame in using WordPress, I love WordPress… and I’d love to express that in my own way.

I’ve always wished that wp-admin, wp-login.php, wp-content and so on were presented more professionally and simply as admin, login.php, content etc.

Also, I wish the code was cleaner, not so riddled with programmer comments. I understand that’s helpful for beginners so perhaps I’m suggesting a developer version and if it has to be paid so be it.

I’d be happy to pay $1 every time a new developer version was available to upgrade my websites. On the users end that would be nothing, but on WordPress’ end that would be substantial. There would still be the free version of course, but also an optional professional/clean version.

You could argue that you could clean it all up yourself, but we all know that’s a lost cause with the ever updating WordPress.

I can’t be the only one that’s wanted this for some time now.

    Thanks, Bryan

Given the nature of open source code and how it’s developed, that’s unlikely to happen. The comments are there to help people pick up the code later.

As for renaming the wp-* stuff, by keeping them wp-content etc you assure that if someone has WordPress in root AND other subfolders in the same location for subdomains or other web apps, they won’t conflict. This is good behavior.

Hense developer version on both accounts.

Unfortunately, if someone wasn’t experienced enough to NOT upload an admin folder to their root where there already is an admin folder in there it’s safe to say that they have no idea what they’re doing and are going to screw something up inevitably anyways.

Since I agree with your points ultimately, I suppose that my idea would be to one day get the developer version. Could I post that in the ideas forum without it getting deleted?

    Thanks, Bryan

Rule #1 of WP core development: Never trust the user.

I have no idea if someone would delete it in the ideas forum.. I’m only a mod here ?? At best, I think that suggestion (for a dev version) would be heard and passed on. It’s extra work to maintain two versions with little benefit.

Agreed, that’s pretty much rule number one of ANYTHING web related.

I’ve been driven to making life better/easier for developers with a few different projects lately.

I think I might look at this with an .htaccess perspective to clean up the presentation.

    Thanks, Bryan
