• I’m thinking of doing a clean uninstall to wipe out all files linked to wordpress in my file manager to then reinstall again. If it’s as easy as trashing the “wordpress” folder then I’ll go ahead and do that, but if there are other proper methods, please share. Thanks.

  • Delete all the files in the wordpress folder and drop all the wp tables in the database, so you don’t want the space over there. That’s all there is to it. If you added any rules to the .htaccess file, they have to go be deleted too.

I installed wordpress but have decided to go another route. I have never used it and have no info I want to save. I put the new in newbies and need the easiest way to remove wordpress. Is there anyone that can give me an easy step by step way that an 11 year old can understand to remove this? Thanks a bunch!

Can the 11 year old go to the database?
If yes, select and “drop” all the tables that have a wp_ prefix.
Can the 11 year old use a FTP cleint?
If yes, connect to your server and delete all the WP files.

When both operations were executed – WP should be uninstalled.

I do not know how to remove items from the database. I can remove wp_prefix items. Would it help if I removed fantastico_fileslist.txt ?
From an 11 yr. old to professional… thanks. I also hope to be a professional someday.

Do you access your database with phpMyadmin?
If yes, when you are in the database you see a list of tables whose name starts with wp_
Select them (checking the box in front of all) and below there is a dropdown menu… (what to do) with Selected.
    Select drop.

It’s embarrasing to show my ignorance but I have not worked at all with a database and not sure how to answer. After public_html directory I see a large number of wp.**.php files with the ** for dfferent files such as wp-mail.php or wp-feed.php. There are also many .php files in these directories wp-admin, wp-includes. Does any of this make sense?

It makes sense, but that’s not the database. Those are the WordPress files.
Well, I really don’t know what else to say regarding the database. The only thing I can think off:
    – you delete all the WP files and folders via FTP (from the public_html directory)
    – ask your host to clean up the database by deleting the wp_ tables. Or, maybe, they will direct you to the method it can be done on your server.

Thanks a bunch for your help.

Since SolidGold mentioned fantastico, I’m guessing that’s how WP was installed.

He can delete/drop/remove the database tables via the control panel.
