Clean Crawler Map not working

I have some permalink tweaks and I try to go to Crawler to update the sitemap (Sitemap generated by RankMath Plugin).
But the strange thing is that I cannot delete the current sitemap. When I click on “Clean Crawler Map”, I get the message “Sitemap cleaned successfully” but “Sitemap Total: xxx” and URL Table have not changed.
And when I click “Refresh Crawler Map” I get the message “Sitemap created successfully: xxx items”. And the confusing thing is that “Sitemap Total” increments equal to the current number of URLs plus the number of URLs present in the sitemap. After many tries my “Sitemap Total” is 8833. And this is the number I got in the “Summary” tab. While my sitemap has only 204 URLs.
I don’t understand what happened to the “Clean Crawler Map” function.
Why is it not working for me.
