• I use WordPress version 6.2.2 and the Classic Editor plugin version 1.6.3.

I wanted to ask if it is possible to use the Classic Editor in full screen mode, without other elements of the WordPress Dashboard? I found the keyboard shortcut Ctrl+Shift+F, but then the block of text is strangely shifted to the left. It’s not comfortable. It would look better if the text block was placed in the middle.

  • Hi there,

One option is to use the focus option on the “Code” mode — not sure if that’s exactly what you want, but it would hide the other options at least.

By the way, I know this would be possible with the native Block Editor. is there a specific reason why you decided to use the Classic Editor?

I don’t want to use Classic Editor in text mode, I care about visual mode. I use the Classic Editor because I got very used to it over the years, and the Block Editor just doesn’t appeal to me.

I wonder why in the Classic Editor, when the full-screen mode is activated with the Ctrl+Shift+F keyboard shortcut, the entire block of text is moved to the left edge of the screen.

Hi @dygresywa, I was referring to go to the Text mode only to enable the Focus option, then you would be able to toggle back to Visual mode with the Focus option still enabled.

I use the Classic Editor because I got very used to it over the years, and the Block Editor just doesn’t appeal to me.

Got it! Thank you for clarifying that. Just a small note that the Block Editor evolved a lot in the last few years, so maybe you could give a chance to it. ??

@foosantos, indeed, the method you described works in the Classic Editor. But can you tell me why the text in the editor pane has such a large right margin?

Interestingly, when I open the post for editing, the text is stretched to the entire width of the editor window for a while. Only after a while does such a large right margin appear.

    Hey @dygresywa

That will be happening because even within a full width area – there are styles applied to paragraphs to keep each line at a width that is most helpful for comfortable reading.

Usually this is about 50-60 characters per line – any longer than that and it’s been found to get harder to read fluently (and find the next line).

@jordesign is it possible to change the number of characters per line, for example in the configuration files of the Classic Editor plugin?

Hey @dygresywa – it’s not something I’m aware of being possible, no.

May I ask why you’re wanting to have that line length be longer in the editor?

@jordesign, for purely functional reasons. It’s just easier for me to edit text this way. I would like the right margin to be the same as the left.
