Classic Editor Format changed before WP 5.8

I am having a problem w the Classic Editor interface in Widgets. All of a sudden the interface has changed. This is BEFORE the 5.8 WP update. It looks the same in the Customizer but on the Widget Page it is hardly functional.
I cannot delete an image or break a link or insert a link.
It’s just a few buttons like b i link ul ol li and code plus B I bullet list numerical list and link.
Can you give me some advice on how to restore the correct Classic editor interface?

I’ve upgraded to WP 5.8 hoping that would restore this but I got the Block Editor which I experimented with but I found it to awkward and clumsy compared w the sleek classic editor. Sorry.

I have installed the Classic Widgets plugin and still have the same barely functional interface on the Widgets page. It is normal on the Customizer page.

I will be glad to show you screen shots.
