Classic Editor Does Not Work For Me

  • I have to go with 1 star since there is no 0. Sorry guys but it doesn’t work for me when trying to use the visual editor. There also does not seem to be any help out here for those of us that are dead in the water. I’ve been using WordPress for a couple of years now and have loved it. All of a sudden I can’t post to my blog. I’m not a tech wizard and don’t care to attempt to become one. I enjoyed the simplicity we had before. If no help is available soon I’ll have to start looking elsewhere.
    Is any body out there???

  • What are you trying to do exactly? Classic editor is working fine for me it might be gutenberg causing the problem. WordPress team has taken wrong decision by including Gutenberg in core that broke many sites

    Maxpt…I have the classic editor selected as default. Here’s what I run into when trying to add a new post.
    When the screen opens up if it is on the “Text” mode I can add text but have no tool bars for changing text from paragraph to Heading 2, 3, or 4. I also can’t format the text such as making it bold, using italics, or color of font.
    When I click to the “Visual” mode I can’t add text to the box.
    If I try to edit an article already posted the text will not show up in the “Visual” mode.
    Do I need to add a plug in to disable Gutenberg? Any help would be appreciated. I’m considering looking for a replacement for WordPress. I hate to do that since I’ve been comfortable with them for several years now. But I need simplicity. Thanks.

    UPDATE:
    I saw a suggestion on another page to disable all plug ins and activate them one at a time while checking Classic Editor each time you activate one. My problem is being caused by Yoast SEO plug in. I had version 9.2.1 installed, updated to 9.3 and both prevent my Classic Editor from working.
    Would love for them to fix this but for now I’ll just have to live without it.
    Thanks for the suggestions. I may still look for a plug in to disable Gutenberg and see if that helps.

    If I had a dollar for every time Yoast created a conflict with another plugin…

    There’s a reason Yoast has to push an update out every two weeks.

    If you can get by without using Yoast, I’d strongly recommend you not use it. It’s a good plugin to learn what are good SEO practices, but once you learn how to follow good tagging and how to use keywords, H1’s and H2’s, you should uninstall Yoast and do without.

    Less headaches in the long run, trust me.

    @a305587 totally agree, I don′t update yoast since the attached media bug last year. but it′s helpful for checking out how many times a keyword is written, words counting, etc. Do you recommend another SEO plugin with those features without all the Yoast hassle?

    @estehelecho consider SEOpress or All in One. Yoast has become a bloated cash cow instead of something useful, causing more conflicts than makes it worthwhile in any of my development cycles.

    I don’t have Yoast, but also had to stop using this plugin. Seems to have a problem with quotes or apostrophes. If I have a certain combination of them in a post and I post it returns me to “page not found”. I have switched off this plugin and now I can post the same content. It was frustrating as I didn’t know what was causing me not to be able to post to my blog anymore, glad to have found the culprit. This worked for me for a while though so I see no need to add a one star review.. so I will hijack this one. ??

    Another Yoast alternative is the Squirrly SEO plugin. It has a bit of work to get all of your content up to snuff but it is very effective.
