Clarification on Simple vs Variable Products and Stock Syncing

First question, for syncing product stock, does Woocommerce Square only support simple products with single attributes or does it also support variable products with only a single attribute as well?

Second question, when Woocommerce Square imports an item from Square with variations, I am unable to select the Sync with Square checkbox as no matter what the SKU in Woocommerce might be Square doesn’t have a SKU for its top-level item. How do I sync an item with variations?

Just to clarify, what is the sync setting at your site?

If you have unnecessary blank variations in your Square products, they will cause syncing issues. Primary this will show up as not seeing the variations on your website front end, or variations not having the proper information (eg. missing a sku).

In Square, there should only ever be one blank line on your products, that is the last line. Any other blank lines will need to be removed from the Square product. Once that is done, manually check the item in?WooCommerce as well and manually remove any extra variations there.

The reason I asked the first question is because I have been having difficulty syncing a variable product with a single attribute and wondered if there was a difference between a single and a variable product.

As you can have both single and variable products with single attributes the section you referred me to does not address this issue. It simply addresses whether you can have an attribute.

As a bit of an update, when I have a Variable product in WooCommerce with a single attribute, check off the “Send Product data to Square” and the “Track Stock Quantity for this product,” and then in WooCommerce -> Settings -> Square -> Update select “Sync Now,” the information does get sent to Square. However, when I reenter the product it shows as having both boxes unchecked. Also, when I filter by product type that is “Synced to Square” all of the items show up. I have not had a related sale to confirm whether stock tracking information is being sent.

I have tried creating a product in Square and having it sent to WooCommerce, it shows up as a variable product with variations. However, I have the same issue with the “Send Product data to Square” and “Track Stock Quantity for this product” ending up unchecked and the warning indicating that it is related to all items having SKUs showing up though all the line items have SKUs.

As to your answer to my second question, we do not have any lines in the Square products or the Woo products without SKUs, I have tried both having Square and WooCommerce selected in the Sync Settings, and I have both tried creating the product in Woo and sending it to Square as well as creating it in Square and sending it to Woo. It does not change the issue regarding the checkboxes.

I have some simple items that are books and are thus not variable, and I have had no problems with the checkboxes.

Thank you for sharing your system status!

I can see your WooCommerce database hasn’t been updated for years. Kindly navigate to WooCommerce → Status → Tools and select the “Update database” option.

But before you do, you might want to update your server’s PHP Time Limit to 1000-1200 first, as 90 seconds seems a bit low for the action scheduler.

Just to clarify, the PHP Time Limit is the maximum amount of time that PHP scripts are allowed to run. If any script runs longer than the set time, PHP will stop it and flag an error. You can adjust this by tweaking the max_execution_time in your PHP configuration file. Your hosting provider should be able to help you with this.

It might be a good idea to backup your site as well just in case, many hosting providers offer a backup solution with their plan, but you can also try something like Jetpack.

As a bit of an update, when I have a Variable product in WooCommerce with a single attribute, check off the “Send Product data to Square” and the “Track Stock Quantity for this product,” and then in WooCommerce -> Settings -> Square -> Update select “Sync Now,” the information does get sent to Square. However, when I reenter the product it shows as having both boxes unchecked. Also, when I filter by product type that is “Synced to Square” all of the items show up. I have not had a related sale to confirm whether stock tracking information is being sent.

As for this part, may I ask what is your current sync settings and what you’re trying to achieve?

Could you also attach a few screenshots of an example product settings in both Square and WooCommerce so we can test this from our end? Please ensure that details such as product IDs, SKUs, etc., are visible on both screenshots.
