Can you help me list the cities on the directory page. I have the shortcode installed to show the listings by State [… ory-regions-browser base_region=”USA” ] and tried adding [… children=x] (where x = tried 2, 3 & 4) but no cities show up under the regions.

If not possible, is there a way to extract the city from the Address field? Why is there not a list of cities with the Regions Module and why is there not an input field for the city so it can be retrieved via the API? If I could find either one of these I would be set but need assistance on this.

    We have purchased the bundle.

    Hi @tradesouthwestgmailcom,

Sorry that you ran into issues with this!

First, the regions browser shortcode is based on the names of the regions you have configured under Directory Admin->Manage Regions. Do you have the city configured under there? Does that city live under a state in the hierarchy? Is that state part of the USA region? (Or is it “United States”)

The names of these things must match exactly. So when you use “2,3,4” unless you have a region named “2”, that won’t match. It has to be something like “Culver City” under “California” to match what you have configured.

Seeing a screenshot of your regions configuration with the city showing and the state it’s under would help a lot.

Use https://imageshack.us if you need to in order to post that.

    Thanks for your fast response,

You can see the page here: The page I need help with: https://edg.developmentinprocess.com/eye-doctor-directory/ or https://prnt.sc/gfxvr0 for screenshot. I would like to see cities below states.

The cities just do not show on the page, under the States. I have manually added several cities as children of the parent states to the Regions .

When I add a city under the state region it does not show in the “Mange Regions” category lists. see: https://prntscr.com/gfxx18

I do not see the city as a form field in “Mange Form Fields” so I hope this is not related. It would be simple to hook if it were. see: https://prntscr.com/gfxzdj

Is there a way to import cities. I have a csv from github that is usable but I thought the zip files we got from wpbdp had the cities in them.

The 2,3, 4 bit was from the file business-directory-regions line 392. I was disparate so I tried it. Otherwise, yes, I tried using […base_region=”USA” children=’City’] and even each city by name….

    Also,
Do I need to make a page for every State with the shortcode [business-directory region="USA" State="Arizona" city="ALL"] (just an example… I have no clue as to what shortcodes to use as the docs are thin on this). Or can I use one shortcode on one page “My Business Directory” to display all my states and their cities under the states?

    [businessdirectory-region region="USA" children=1] What is this?
It does not seem to do anything.

Finally got it to work. If anyone interested, the only way I could add cities to the Regions Module Manager was to add them into the bulk “Add Multiple Regions” The name of the Regions, one region per line.

For some reason adding a city using “Add Region” by adding one city at a time (which is all I was trying to do) would not take the new city name… and the Parent region never shows up as an Ajax auto search choice like it normally would using the bulk add regions textarea input.

So now when I need to add a new city, I add it using the “Add Multiple Regions” and it works fine.

    Hi @tradesouthwestgmailcom,

Sorry that the Regions module wasn’t working–can you walk me through exactly how to reproduce that problem you were seeing above and I’ll have my developer look into it? We definitely want to get that fixed if it’s not working right.

    The more detail, the better.

    Thanks!

    1. Went to Manage Regions edit-tags.php?taxonomy=wpbdm-region&post_type=wpbdp_listing

    2. Went to tab ‘Add Region’ and then field ‘Name’

    3. Entered name of city.

    4. Entered state (only because it did not auto-populate)

    5. Hit ‘Add New Region’ button

    6. Context at top of page says …region added.
But my new city is not under the parent or anywhere to be found.

    —————————————

    Solution (what worked for me)

Same as above only step 2. I went to ‘Add Multiple Regions’ tab and copied several city names into the textarea—one per line—and it worked like a charm.

So now when I need to add just a single city I use the Add Multiple Regions tab and not the single, ‘Add Region’ ‘name’ field.

Note: I just imported over 800 entries and all of the cities populated the posts AND the cities/states/countries drop down in the listings and on the post editor metabox, ‘Listing Region’ shows all my regions/sub/subs.

Not sure what is going on but maybe the single field ‘Add Regions’ text field does not take Ajax seriously or there is some bug in my browser (Mozilla/5.0 (X11; Ubuntu; Linux x86_64; rv:55.0) Gecko/20100101 Firefox/55.0). Mint 17.3 on Firefox.

    OK, that helps.

And just to confirm that you’re running the latest,
    – What version of WP are you running here?
    – What exact version of BD? (number, please)
    – What exact version of BD Regions? (number, please)

    Thread Starter tradesouthwest

    (@tradesouthwestgmailcom)

    4.8.1 WP
    4.1.14.1. bizdir
    4.1.4 regions

After I imported my database I can now use the single regions entry tab and the autofill populates as well. Not sure why I could not use it before doing the db import. Maybe the top level regions were not associated with any listings. I know WP works this way… if you do not have a post under the category then it will not show that category. This is sort of what was happening in my case.

You can close this ticket. I appreciate your time and attention.

Sure, no worries. We found and fixed the issue–it will be in the next release of Regions.

Thanks again for letting us know. ??

Glad I could help. I was beginning to think it was “just me.” LOL. I guess this is one of the nice advantages of working with Open Source Community. Keep up the good work. Will rate 5 stars.
