    Hi

    (This isn’t really a page-specific issue.)

I’ve used Backup Guard on many sites and it’s always been excellent … But the install I’m working on now is proving odd.

Using Chrome, I can create a backup as normal. If I try to download it, however, I get … well, nothing! It seems to be trying to give me the download option, but then nothing is there to download.

If I look at the downloads folder in Chrome, there’s nothing.

If I download test files from other sites, it’s all working fine – including Backup Guard files.

It does NOT work if I’m in Chrome in incognito mode either.

If I go in via FTP, I see the files are being created.

And if I access the site via Firefox, I am able to download the backup file.

So, that seems to suggest that the problems lies with Chrome and Backup Guard in combination somehow, but only for the one site I’m working on.

And I’m afraid that’s the extent of my investigative skills (!). Any ideas as to how best to resolve this?

    Thanks

    eM

    Dear @emarbee2021 ,

Thanks for telling about the problem.

The thing is that we don’t seem to have such an issue with Chrome so it means it’s specific to your exact browser.

Could you please uninstall and reinstall Chrome and let us know if the same issue occurs?

    Thanks beforehand.

    Hello dear @emarbee2021 ,

    Hope you’re fine.

Did you try re-installing Chrome? How did it work afterward?

    Hi

    sorry about the slow reply.

I tried downloading a backup file from the same site, using a different copy of Chrome, and that still didn’t work.

But if I try downloading a backup file from a different site, using Chrome, that does work.

So that says to me the problem must lie in the specific installation of Backup Guard on this site, when using Chrome.

I then tried deactivating and uninstalling Backup Guard from the “problem” site. And I then downloaded a new copy of the plugin and activated that. But that didn’t help either! However, I noticed that when I reinstalled the plugin, it found the backup files left over from the earlier installation, so the deactivation/uninstallation cannot have “cleaned out” the earlier installation completely. Is there a way of thoroughly cleaning out an installation?

    Thanks

    Dear @emarbee2021 ,

Please, uninstall the plugin once again, then go to the following directory and delete the backups manually from there: /wp-content/uploads/backup-guard/
This way, the backup files will be deleted.

Once deleted, please, reinstall the plugin and you won’t see the previous backups of the earlier installation there.

    Hi

well, I tried as you suggested but I still get the problem with Chrome, and just this site.

I then did a WordPress reinstall – and that didn’t help things either.

I have no idea why – but as it seems to work OK in Firefox, and I can see the backup file via FTP, I guess we can stop worrying about it.

    Thanks for your help.
