I just updated Chromatic theme, and the update majorly messed up the site. THIS IS NOT OK PEOPLE.

Now that it is updated, I see a message about keeping a view of the old configuration open in another tab for reference, but there was no such warning when I updated from the Updates section of the dashboard.

The site is for a non-profit that is right in the middle of a certification process, and I am a volunteer who actually had other plans for my evening than reconfiguring a website that was perfectly fine. In what universe is it OK to do this to people’s sites without warning??!!

    Decidedly NOT the WordPress way.

It gets worse. Most of my front page content is GONE. Yes, despite reassurances, GONE. Not in inactive widgets, not in any widget area, whether accessed through the WPHootinized Customizer or through the native Widget pane. The Chromatic theme update eliminated my front page content.

Wow. Words cannot express my outrage. Thank god I have backups.

I contacted the theme author directly, and they eventually fixed it for me. The missing widgets were part of the theme (Hoot Content Blocks), so I don’t know why they didn’t carry over with the theme update, and they did not explain it. On the other hand, they did also resolve an issue for me with sizing of the thumbnmails in the contents that turned out to be related to the recent WordPress core update, rather than the theme update.
