Choose the password I send to new user

Hello,
I’m wondering if it is possible to manually send a password asked by the registration form from a new user ?
I see that the password is automaticaly send but how to do if I want to control who have access to my website ?
Do I have to not use the registrer option and assign user in an other way ?
