CHMOD value for .htaccess needed for hide backend

  • Hi,
    does anyone know which is the minimal value for the CHMOD of .htaccess
    needed for iThemes to write to it, when I enable ‘hide backend’?
    Right now it’s 644 and I don’t want any errors when I enable hide backend.

    Also, iThemes suggests a value of 444 for .htaccess. Isn’t that too restrictive?
    It currently gives a warning that it’s set to 644.
