    Hello WordPress world,

I’m new to editing themes but have enjoyed using and designing sites.

I was going to try out building on this theme https://runo.lala.fi. I’ve tried to keep it simple and wanted to
    – change the font
    – add an image to the top left
    – remove the paragraph symbols

It appears I can pay for a custom upgrade annually (though I wouldn’t be able to learn to do it myself) or I can create a child theme. The site is hosted with wordpress.com at the moment. When I go to edit the css on the site to try making a child theme, it requests I pay for a ‘custom upgrade’. Is this standard now? am I missing something?

I am also in the process of setting up a local server to play with – though I haven’t managed it as yet…

    many thanks

You can’t make a child theme on self-hosted WordPress.COM sites – you can only use the paid upgrade to use custom CSS. If you have questions about .COM sites, you need to ask on their forums:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/

These forums only support self-hosted .ORG sites.

    Brill,

That makes it very clear. Thanks.
