I’m trying to create a child theme of twentyten. I want to change the sidebar.php and footer.php files. Do I just copy them from the parent theme and change as needed or do I have to rename them to something specific so that they function properly?

  • I think you have to rename the theme.

I’ve created the child theme style.css file and uploaded it using Template: twentyten
When I go to admin – how do I know if it’s a child theme? Right now it says this next to the screenshot:

The template files are located in /themes/twentyten. The stylesheet files are located in /themes/megfoundation. MEG Foundation (2010) uses templates from Twenty Ten. Changes made to the templates will affect both themes.
