child theme won't upload

The Template: tag has to match the directory name including the case.

Try making it

Template:       matala

in lower case.

Can you set your WordPress Address (URL) and Site Address (URL) to https://idahoorange.com?

It looks like you’ve a brand new WordPress installation so there shouldn’t be any risk and you can start over again from scratch if something goes wrong.

Wait, there’s been a development. I went into Themes and matala-child is there, but the parent that was there before has disappeared. I didn’t do anything to cause this–what gives?

I’ve managed to get the parent matala back in the Themes, along with the matala-child, which is what I wanted to do originally. Do I still have to change the URLs?

So somethings are working and somethings are not. I’m at a loss what’s going on with your installation.

Nope. The URL https://idahoorange.com/wp-content/themes/twentyeleven/style.css should just work even if you do not activate it.

It’s either missing or something is going on.
