    Hi Thomas,

In one of my sites, I was using wp-forge (didn’t realised at that time, to use child theme wp-starter) and now I want to use the wp-starter but after activated the child theme, design is not the same. Not picking up the recent pages and posts and design etc.

Am i too late in using child theme? Is there a way that I can incorporate current wp-forge with child theme wp-starter? Coz I’m loving the child theme concept. I can’t start from scratch as the site has grown too much.

    Hope you can help me…
    Waiting in anxious.. ??

    Hey there,

No it’s not too late to every use a child theme. Yo do have to keep in mind that a child theme is, basically a different theme even though it pulls the info from the parent.

Yo have to go in and set all the settings for the theme in the customizer. A child theme does not carry over the parent settings.

I suggest you switch back to WP-Forge, take note of the settings, then reactivate the child and apply the settings and see if that corrects your issue.

Let me know how it goes. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply. Sorry.. been away..

Yes finally I copied all the settings from wp-forge and applied to child and Voila!

Out of curiously, how come I have to do this (copy all the settings from main theme to child theme) All the other themes that I work with.. didn’t have to.

Thanks again for your quick response as usual. five thumbs up.. ??

Glad it worked out for you.

The reason is because with the theme customizr, theme settings are stored in one place for each theme. For example the settings are stored under theme_mod_wpforge and the settings for any child theme for WP-Forge are stored under theme_mod_childthemename. They are two different database rows.

The child theme cannot pull the info from the row that has the parent theme information.

If you’d was not the case for other themes you have used, then it’s possible those themes used option settings and both the parent and child theme settings are stored on one line. This is not optional and not up to WordPress standards.

Hope this made sense. As always, enjoy!
