Hi Frumph, hope all is well.

Should I(we) create a child theme for any changes to the style-default sheet?

  • Not the theme author but creating a child theme is the best way to go. If you edit the original theme and the theme gets updated your edits will be erased.

Absolutely agree with Aramaz; to make the style-default.css into a child theme editable, you would create the header information for style.css child theme wise then add the contents of style-default.css into it and then modify it as you wish. (disable the default style in the easel-options – cause now you’re using the one from the child theme)

my forums have child themes you can take examples from.

I created a child theme in the wordpress folder and applied the modified style-default.cc to it but it i not an option in my available themes. How can I get it to show up?

The message I get is :

Installing Theme from uploaded file: ChildofEasel.zip
    Unpacking the package…

    Installing the theme…

The package could not be installed. The style.css stylesheet doesn’t contain a valid theme header.

    Theme install failed.

    Any Adivice?

.. you could always use an @import of the style-default.css in the child theme, right under the import for the style.css if you want to overwrite the look of the default design.

So If I make changes to “style-default” once its brought into the child theme THEN i can change the look of the first page without it affecting the other pages?

Well, personally; I have better child themes that would look WAY better for your site.

A white-black look, with your content would be way more suitable, I have a few child themes on my forums that we can build from.
