So I made a child theme for Hueman but I want to put in 2 extra files because I changed those.

The files are: page.php and single.php.

Do I just put them into the same place where the functions.php and the style.css files are, OR do I have to make a new folder?

  • Hi Johnyboy. Yes, they go in the same folder as the other child theme files. Only time you need to make a new folder is when the files in the parent theme are in a subfolder.

Thanks for your answer, but it didn′t work, after the update the theme didn′t take the files out of my child theme.

I suppose I have to make a folder in the child theme, but no idea how to name it.

after the update the theme didn′t take the files out of my child theme.

Theme updates don’t do anything with the files in your child theme. They only affect the files in the parent folder. Or are you saying now your site isn’t using the files in your child theme?

I put the desired files page.php and single.php in my child theme.

    Then I updated.

The theme does not read the files from my child theme, but takes them from the root theme.

So that′s why I wondered if I have to put the files page.php and single.php in a folder in the child theme.

The theme does not read the files from my child theme, but takes them from the root theme.

How do you know this? Those files should not be placed inside a folder within the child theme’s folder.

Well, I put breadcrumbs in the pages page.php and single.php.

I copied those 2 files to my child theme.

I updated the Hueman theme to the latest version.

    My breadcrumbs disappeared.

Then I copied the 2 files into the main theme again and the breadcrumbs reappeared.

Are you sure your child theme is active?

That′a good question. A file has been made by the plugin.

    But how can I tell?

In your admin menu Appearance > Themes, the child theme has to be active for it to be used.

Well, I suppose that was the problem. If so, stupid me.

Thank you so much for you help.

No problem. You’re welcome and glad to help.
