Child Them Editor appears to not save, but it actually does save

  • Since 4.9, when I edit a file in the child theme using Appearnace > Edit, the activity wheel just keeps spinning. If I click on another page I get the message you get when did an edit but didn’t save:

    This page is asking you to confirm that you want to leave – data you have entered may not be saved (choice = Stay on Page or Leave Page)

    If I click on leave page in spite of the warning, the edit was actually saved.

    Can anyone please help, this is not a major showstopper but it’s annoying

  • That is not a WordPress related issue. It is an incompatibility with your theme. Please check to see if your parent theme is up to date or if the issue has been reported to the developer.

    Everything was fine until I updated to WordPress 4.9, hence it appears the WordPress update broke something to do with the editor which was working before the update.

    Just tested on other themes, same issue with Twenty Sixteen and Woothemes Canvas

    Did you disable ALL plugins before switching themes? There is nothing wrong with any of my sites running 4.9.
