After installing this plugin on two of my websites I noticed that changes made in the style.css in my childtheme didn’t take effect.

After trying a lot of stuff out I found out that it does actually take effect, it just takes between 1 tot 2 hours to do so.

The oddest thing, however, is that I backed one of those websites up before installing the plugin. So I restored the backup but the problems still occur. When I inspect my pages it says all the css is located on line 1 of a bunch of different stylesheets.

Another weird thing is that the same problem occurs on the subdomains of those two websites. On subdomains of any of my other websites (the ones who have never had Autoptimize installed) everything works like a charm.

I have absolutely no clue what to do know since the plugin is already deinstalled.

One of the websites is still under maintenance, the other one is mathijslemmers.com.

I hope you can help me with this, thank you so much for your time in advance.

    Best regards,

    Mathijs Lemmers

    Avond Mathijs,
Can’t look into this right now, I’m on holiday with very limited access to the internet, but both problems you describe are pretty… weird.

Regarding not taking changes in the child CSS until after a couple of hours; AO works on a per-page base, aggregating all CSS it can find, minimizing that and injecting it into the HTML. If an exact same page gets optimized twice, it gets optimized in the exact same way. If the optimized result is different, then the original HTML and or CSS must have been different as well.

Regarding altered CSS even after removing AO: AO does not change any of the origin CSS. When deactivating autoptimize (and clearing any page caching mechanism) there can be no trace of AO left.

I’ll be happy to look into some of this when I return from holiday.

    Groetjes,
    Frank

    Hi Frank,

    (Didn’t realize you were Dutch!)

No worries, I’m off for a week as well after today.

The problems I’m having are indeed very odd. I still don’t know if Autoptimize is really the problem, it’s just the only thing I did on those websites in a few weeks.

Is showing “style.css line 1” for all css in Firebug a thing that AO does? If not we can be fairly positive AO is not the cause of my problem. Just wouldn’t have absolutely no clue what is.

Enjoy your holiday and I’ll hear from you when you’re back!

    Cheers,

    Mathijs

so, fun times are over, back to another kind of fun ??

Is showing “style.css line 1” for all css in Firebug a thing that AO does?

    no, it is not.

Marking as resolved as I see no indication this is down to AO, but do let me know if/ when you sorted this out and are looking into AO again, I’ll be happy to assist.

    kind regards,
frank (een zuiderbuur, eigenlijk, met een Nederlandse moeder, dat wel ?? )

    Hi Frank,

The “style.css line 1” seems to be a weird bug in either Firebug or my theme, coincidence is that at the same time I was having problems with the style.css not updating properly, the last problem was automatically fixed.

I’ve already reinstalled AO, sorry for bothering you with this! Seemed too odd for it not to have been caused by AO since it was the only thing I changed, but sometimes coincidences like this happen, haha.

Hope you’ve enjoyed your holiday and the best of luck with everything.

    Best regards,
