Checking error logs without cPanel for new theme

A web designer has created a new theme for my website, uploaded it to my FTP and it is now accessible on my theme page.
However, when I attempt to “Live Preview” it, nothing happens. The other WordPress-installed themes (2010, 2011, 2012, etc.) all work with Live Preview.
Here is the real problem:
My website host does not provide a cPanel, and my designer appears to have no way to check error logs. He is insisting that this is necessary in order for him to fix the theme enough to at least ensure it is working on Live Preview before we put it live.
While I am a website owner and operator, I am a bit of a layman overall, so I was hoping for some direction/advice/help on error logs and such.
