I have installed Wordfence on a Woocommerce website.

Users keep getting locked out. However after investigating the issue, we have learnt that 9 out of 10 times, the users don’t have accounts and they have been purchasing the products as guests.

Is there way to display a message saying “email not registered” or something like that.

Hi @nikputhu, thanks for getting in touch.

Are you seeing the blocks for these unregistered users come up in Live Traffic? A reason should be given in red text if you click on the line to expand it.

The reason I ask is because there should be no default reason to block a guest user on your WooCommerce site. Lockouts may occur from 2FA or reCAPTCHA requirements that aren’t being fulfilled but would only expect this on a login/registration page. Do you have any of these Login Security features enabled and are you using any custom pages or modal popups in the purchase process? It may help to temporarily disable these to see if the number of blocked users reduce.

Let me know what you find out!
    Peter.

    Hi Pete,

Many of these guest users. Think they have created an account, when they have filled out the details on the checkout

I figured out the issue. I had ticked the Immediately lock out invalid usernames.

By unselecting it. It just gives the user incorrect username or password error

Hi @nikputhu, thank-you for the update and I’m glad that’s worked for you.

We do usually recommend removing that setting on sites that have a high frequency of public users as the easy mistake of a mistyped username can result in more alerts (or locked-out customers getting in touch) for you than necessary. I will ensure that’s in my considerations for checkout issues like this in future.

If you have other Wordfence questions going forward, we’ll always be happy to assist if you open up a new topic.

    Thanks again,
    Peter.
