• Hello,

AVH Extended Categories Widgets plugin was working perfectly well until today when I updated it with 3.8.3.

Now I still have some of the categories checked and the option ‘Show selected categories only’ checked, but I get ALL the categories in sidebars (seems like check marks are ignored); also ‘Show post counts’ and ‘Show RSS Feed’ are unchecked though now are showing.

Is it possible to get everything back? Or should I restore from back-up now?

    Thanks.

Great plugin though! Fully corresponds my needs!

    @clenzltd:

    That’s exactly what I do. ??

I just leave empty categories shown for the time being. Not a big deal.

@ngootkina So when the parent category is empty it won’t show the children even though they are not empty?

My situation is a bit different. I have the following categories structure:

    (Year is a parent category)

    2013 – Child Category1
    – Child Category2
    2012 – Child Category3
    – Child Category4
    2011 – Child Category5
    – Child Category6
    2010 – Child Category7
    – Child Category8
    2009
    2008

2009 and 2008 are the only two empty. Just now I realized that they have no children (they suppose to have, so I wrongly considered them as parents too)

    The following categories are checked: 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008.

Other checkmarks: ‘Show selected categories only’, ‘Toplevel only’, ‘Hide empty categories’.

In this case only category 2011 is shown by some reason, others are hidden.

So, I just disable ‘Hide empty categories’, then everything works fine.

I hope that helps and does not sound too confusing.

    Thank you!

But are there any posts that have the category 2013?

With that I mean actually that category, not implied through the children. If you check the option “Show post counts”, what is the post count for the categories 2013,2012,2010,2009,2008?

I made it in the way, that parent categories have no posts.

    Only children categories do.

That means, categories 2013, 2012, 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008 have no posts; but Child Category1, Child Category2 etc. have posts.

OK, so that’s what I thought.

As these categories don’t have posts, they are considered empty and don’t show up.

I understand what you want to do and believe that would be expected behavior, I’ll work on it in a few days.

I’m completely new to Word Press and web design, so excuse my ignorance of “code talk”- On my website I have been able to set up many pages with links to different posts using this widget, but for some reason there are some categories that I can’t get to link to their parent page. It looks like all the same boxes are checked on all the category/group/post pages where they ARE linking, so I can’t figure out what is missing… not sure I explained this correctly, but I would love some help!
