Channel and The Gazette Edition Theme, customizing not saving

I have downloaded and activated both of these themes but when I customize these themes, the changes simply do not take place. The title and tagline were changed and saved, but it simply doesn’t effect the site itself. I can activate a different theme and the changes automatically take effect, but not these two. Any ideas on why this would be, how to get the changes to these themes to stick? I’d appreciate any help.
