Hello, Changing my URL from https://www.tonyblairthewildernessyears.co.uk/wordpress to https://www.holditupforridicule.com has gone wrong. I have the new domain set up, and I followed the principle of the Changing URL thread below:

    1. admin > Options > General: change the 2 URI values to
    https:// www .oyehoy.com/blog (without spaces)
Save options. (You will get a 404 but don’t worry)
    2. vith your FTP program create the folder called “blog”
    3. Move all your WP files into the new “blog” folder

But my FTP program Terrapin crashed after I moved the three WordPress directories and before I could move the files in WordPress. When I started Terrapin again, all directories were in their original place, except it says ‘directory not found’ for the wp-admin directory. I can’t copy the files again, because it says ‘Server Problem’, and I have to kill the job. I can’t reopen install.php even though I can see that the file is there. So, at the moment, I’m stuck. Any ideas how to complete the file copying as that seems to be my only hope?

Well, that’s it. Deep despair. As far as I can tell, I lost my blog. Terrapin completely screwed the file copying. I’ve been using it for five years and I never had any trouble moving files.

If I reinstall wp-admin and the root WordPress files from my hard disc, would that reinstate my past blogs, or have I lost them? Would it be just a new blank installation?

No doubt where the recent Terrapin problems come from. This is from Terrapin’s site:

Latest: A recent Microsoft Windows update may prevent Terrapin FTP from running.

If you experience problems with Terrapin FTP freezing on startup then it is most likely due to this Microsoft update. The update in question is KB908531 which is documented in Microsoft Security Bulletin MS06-015. Microsoft have released a fix for this problem that requires you to edit the Windows registry. The fix can be found in Microsoft Knowledge Base Article 918165. Another solution would be to uninstall KB908531 through Control Panel / Add Remove Programs

It’s resolved. I sacked Terrapin as I could no longer trust it to tell me what was on the server, never mind reinstall wp-admin. I downloaded the excellent FileZilla, and everything is now as I intended.
