Changing URL

I really need to get my site up, its been 3 days and I have no idea how to change my URL. PLZ

Can anyone simplify the instructions?

4 easy steps. That user was trying to do the opposite (from example.com to example.com/wordpress) – but that shouldn’t be a problem.
The logic is the same!

Same question with a twist. Going by the logic applied in the earlier post, what if I do not want to MOVE the files from the installation directory (to the root) and yet point the URL at example.com. I think this can be achieved by editing the index.php. Just do not know how.

I think I screwed it. I need help. I tried editing the Index.php file and now I can’t see anything.

As a precaution, I overwrote the original with index.php but it has not helped. I can’t even access the Admin Panel ?? Does anyone know the real issue?
