• Hi
I want to change a theme I purchased to another theme I have bought, I have the new theme I want running locally, if I activate the new theme on my live site how do i get it to preserve and show my current live portfolio and blog pages? will it just work with the new theme ? or do I have to export/import the xml from my locally running site ? hope that make sense.
    thanks

  • Your content should just work with the new theme. All content (blog posts, pages) are stored in the underlying WordPress structure (tables), themes just change the appearance/user interface to the site. So you should be able to switch around and try different themes to see what fits your site without losing any content.

Now, if you’ve tweaked the local copy of the theme to have a certain appearance, you’ll need to make the same tweaks to your production installation. Some themes come with an option to export the theme settings so you can import them on another installation or to save the settings as a backup. You’ll have to check to see if that feature is part of your theme. Otherwise, you’ll have to tweak the theme manually on the production site using the same steps as you followed in your local copy. Hope that answers your question.
