• Hi. I am setting up a website as a subdomain of my main site.

I have a new domain name that I want it to appear as (let’s call it newsite.com)

At the moment, I have it as https://mainsite.net/newsitecom.

I want to change the url to simply newsite.com.

I have ben into phpmyadmin and changed the wp_options files – ‘home’ and ‘siteurl’ to newsite.com.

I have today pointed the DNS at the server I am using.

Is there anything else I need to do for the site to appear? At the moment, I am getting an internal server error. Do I jjust have to wait for the DNS to resolve or is there something else I need to do?

Many thanks. I am hopelessly non-technical, so your assistance would be most welcome!

I have read it is possible to do some coding that could make it *appear* that way to a browser, but I believe ‘newsite.com’ would first have to actually be a registered domain (such as an Add-On Domain at your hosting account) before it could actually be directly accessed as ‘newsite.com’.

Thanks leejosepho. It is already a registered domain.

At my own host, that would be called an Add-On Domain.

I want to change the url to simply newsite.com.

For my own add-ons, I simply go to cPanel and assign them to their unique installation folders and then neither my Primary URL nor any Add-On URL are ever dependent upon the other.

Thanks, yes. I have figured that out today and everything is working fine. Thanks for your inputs!
