Changing the Site URL. When I do it, I lose my wordpress changes

  • Hi guys, I am really new at this. Never used WordPress before actually.

    Problem that I have at this moment, is that whenever I change the Site Address on my wordpress settings, if I try to access mywebsite, it won′t load any wordpress changes.

    My website (which is still under construction) would be as shown on https://www.tuanisweb.com/wordpress, I made changes on Settings-> General, so my url will be only https://www.tuanisweb.com, however, if you check both websites, they are different.

    I was trying to find any information about this and how to fix it, but I didnt quite find the right answer.

  • As bad as it sounds, changing the URL in that box doesn’t magically change the URL. I know that sounds stupid, but it’s unfortunately how it goes at this time and it’s something that hasn’t been resolved yet after a lot of people having exactly the same issue as you.

    Next time you need to change the site url of your blog, please use the following method, it always works for me.

    • Backup files and database
    • Download Database Search & Replace and extract the main script near your index.php file
    • Run the script and enter you new and old url, beware, do not include https:// or trailing slashes but write the exact domains you are migrating from/to, so if you are migrating from google.com to cdn.yahoo.com, that will be “google.com”/”cdn.yahoo.com” and not “google”/”cdn.yahoo”
    • (In some cases) Open your .htaccess and wp-confog.php and search and replace old domain with new one
