changing the default view to grid instead of list

I want to change the default view to “grid” instead of “list”. Is there some way to do that? There was a blog post indicating that you could set the default view using a shortcode with view=”grid” (e.g., [events_list view=”grid”]) but that didn’t work when I tried it.
