Hello, I have a website with two languages “English” and “German”. The content was in German and I translated it into English. Everything is fine, but now I need the English version to open on the main address without a subdirectory and the German version with a subdirectory.

Now I have the English version on /en/ and I don’t see how to switch. If I change the content language in the settings, the translations get lost.

Hello there,

Indeed, changing the default language will invalidate existing translations.??

??To change the order that the language get to be displayed on the website please follow this steps:

Go to:
WordPress Dashboard –> Settings –> Translatepress General Tab –>
Activate the following: Use a subdirectory for the default language

Then just drag the secondary language where the default language is.
A visual example:

The subdirectory should remain as it is, otherwise, all content must be rewritten in English and then re-translated into German.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Best Regards,

Anca
