Changing TAB width doesn't allow more text on the tab.

No matter how wide you make the tab, the text in the tab wraps after about 12 characters and doesn’t display properly. I’d like to have all my text on one line with no wrap.
I’m not even close to a css expert, so I need a little more guidance than what file to reference.
