Changing site url

Hmm, I followed the instructions and I then get error 403, “you do not have permission to access / on this driver”

I have got it working but only if I don’t put the .htaccess file in the root folder. Why would that be and is it the end of the world if I leave it out?

No, the new website is the same as the old one simply with more pages and a few downloads.

What happens if you put the .htaccess file in the root folder?

All I can see is this:

Forbidden
You don’t have permission to access / on this server.

Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

Just had a look,

# Prevent running or accessing any file directly.

Order Deny,Allow
Deny from all

That, might explain it. Although Giving_WordPress_Its_Own_Directory that told me to put in there

That’s not a WP .htaccess file. And, yes, it would explain the problems you had. As you are currently using default permalinks, don’t worry about it.
