• Hi… We are currently running a WP website under a subdirectory using https://www.root/subdirectory.com as the home URL. We have another separate WP site running in the root directory. We want to change the site address of https://www.root/subdirectory.com. Our hosting service has created an “add on domain” for us. This new domain shows as a sub-directory off the root.

Questions: can I leave my WP files in root/subdirectory.com and just change the WP Site Address setting to the new .com domain? And does changing this setting then automatically change the individual page address URLs?

    Appreciate any advice. Mike

  • Do you want the subdirectory site moved to the add-on domain? If you move to the add-on domain, you have to change the old URLs to the new ones.

Ideally, I do not want to move the WP install and files. Thus the question… can I leave them where they are at and just change the Site Address (URL) setting?

    Thanks for response, Mike

As you want to use an add-on domain for your site, review this tutorial.

Appreciate the response. Since the tutorial you suggested explains how to install WP onto a new domain, I take it that the direct answer to my question is “No, I cannot leave my WP install where it is currently located.” Is that correct? Again, thanks for your responses. m
