    Hello,
A few days ago roles started changing when I edit a user in admin. So if I edit someones information and save, the role changes to subscriber even if I never changed the role in editing. This is not good, I need my users to have the roles they have been assigned.

    Hi,

Did you test this issue when User Role Editor deactivated? I mean that some other plugin may be a reason.

Yes the roles does not change when the plugin is deactivated.

I have noticed a similar (maybe the same) problem as well. Here is how to replicate it:

    1. Visit WP-admin > Users.
    2. Select a user and click “Edit”.
    3. Choose a role from the drop-down menu and click “Update User”. For my tests I chose “Editor”.
    4. When the page reloads, scroll down to the “Capabilities” section and click on “Edit”.
    5. Asign an additional capability to the user and click “Update”.
    6. When the page reloads, visit the user’s edit page once more. The role will be changed.

    Cheers

Thanks a lot for the help.

I confirm the bug: User lose assigned role in case you directly assign him capability via “Capabilities” editing page.

I will publish the fix soon.
