    Hi,
I have changed my permalink structure from default to /%postname%/ and it is causing problems with file pathways.
I will try to explain what is happening.

    https://www.nightofa1000thrills.com/chatter/?page_id=2

the above link is the default structure. and works fine, but when I change to /%postname%/

    nightofa1000thrills.com/chatter/about/

following the file pathway to images results in

    nightofa1000thrills.com/chatter/about/images/desert_scene.jpg

    instead of

    nightofa1000thrills.com/chatter/images/desert_scene.jpg

I have done a couple of blogs before and don’t recall this problem.

Another example, when clicking onto a category and following pathway to missing image

    nightofa1000thrills.com/chatter/category/1000-thrills-news/images/desert_scene.jpg

Trying to work this out, the style sheet images are working, but nothing from within the page including javascript.

the permalink structure seems to be inserting itself into the pathway.

Hope I made some sense, any tips would be great,

    Cheers Paul

  • Have you tried:

    – deactivating all plugins to see if this resolves the problem? If this works, re-activate the plugins one by one until you find the problematic plugin(s).

    – switching to the default theme to rule out any theme-specific problems?

    Hi Esmi,
    Thanks for replying
I have no active plugins at the moment,
and have just checked default theme, but that didn’t highlight any problems.
The blog home page is fine,
    nightofa1000thrills.com/chatter/

the problem only occurs when category or archive is selected,
I feel the solution is on the tip of my tongue, but just can’t figure it

I’ve just been looking at the Well Hello World post on the front page, category page & single post page and I can’t see a problem with images. What I did notice was that your category template is using the_excerpt() instead of the_content() – which automatically strips out all images. If you can’t see a category.php template file, then your theme is re-using archive.php – which would also explain why you’re not seeing images in archive pages.

    Hi Esmi,
sorry for the confusion, everything works with the permalink structure set to default, as it was when you looked at it, I will make the change to /%postname%/ so you can see exactly what is happening.

    Thanks again

Got it sorted, used full links to the javascript in header.php, also moved slider code up there and gave images full links, to avoid changing single.php archive.php etc,
Thanks for your help will look at changing _excerpt() instead of the_content()

    Ta

No problem. For future reference always use full urls in WordPress. It doesn’t function at all well with relative urls – as you’ve seen.
