• Just a quick question. I am currently using a bought theme on my site. It’s been tweaked a lot to customize it to what I wanted it to do. For a few reasons (particularly that it’s currently Flash heavy), I want to get away from it and switch to Suffusion. Before I do, I just want to find out if there’s anything I should do (besides back up, obviously), or will all content just transfer over intact? Please forgive me if this is a stupid question – I’ve been using WordPress for a couple of years but have never switched themes on a live site. Thanks so much!

  • Content will transfer over, but you almost certainly will have some work to do to get the new theme set up the way you want because theme options and settings are theme specific.

So if you don’t want a visible “mess,” you could do a number of things:

Use a “under construction” page – plugins can do that, including letting you make the page

Making a copy of your site someplace else (usually on a local computer or in a sub-directory) – working on it there and then moving it when it’s ready to go.

Thanks so much. I don’t mind doing all the clean up – I expected that for sure. Just as long as I won’t be losing content and text etc.

Will definitely use an Under Construction page. Thank you so much!
