• Hey guys,
Anyone who can tell me how to change order of my categories? My site is: https://metalprovider.net/ and if you look at the categories, those are listed in a following order now: Best of 2010, Editorial, Metal Reviews & Video fo the Week – but I want it to be like this: Editorial, Metal reviews, Video of the Week and finally The Best of 2010.
Anyone who can help? Please be detailed…
    Thanx in advance,
    B

  • hmmm… there actually is a ‘term_order’ column in the ‘wp_term_relationships’ table but it doesn’t seem to be used for anything, at least on my installations, and I can’t find anything on the backend to set the value.

Does anyone know what that column is for?

Anyway, I think your case is more simple than that. You should probably be able to order that section without worrying about the WP tables ?? Unfortunately, I don’t have time right now. I’ll try to check back later and I’ll post if the problem hasn’t been solved.

Esmi; what is it? I think that my problem can be solved easier… I just have to access this place where I manually can move categories up and down to change the order…. I need no codes and such…

Try setting up a custom menu.

There is no place where you can manually move categories up and down. Categories aren’t ordered in that way, though there seems to be some precursors to such functionality.

esmi’s suggestion probably is the easiest solution but it depends a lot on how your theme is written.

YES; there was a place where one can move categories manually, and I’ve just done that. Thanks for trying to help, anyway ??

By the look of it, you did exactly what was suggested, and set up a custom menu.

Of course it worked, that’s what you were advised to do.

It would be good to share how you managed this for others that have the same question?

Give the resolution and mark the topic as resolved helps others looking for a solution ??

Yes, please. If you managed to do this without 1) manipulating the category array as you output it (as you would with a custom menu), or 2) manipulating the database directly I would sincerely like to know how.

Manipulating? Hm, I’ve done what everyone else can do without doin’ anything wrong… Appearance –> Menus –> Change order by dragging them up & down, to create a new category just choose it on the right side…

Tigtog; NO, I didn’t do as suggested here, but again Thanks for trying to help…

Who said anything about your doing something wrong?

You asked how to change the order of your categories. What you really wanted to know is how to change the order of items in a navigation menu, which really is where several people pushed you anyway.

Anyway, glad you got it solved.

    Sacir,
Look again at replies two and four from esmi.
    Reply two:

    Set up a custom menu?

    Reply four:

Try setting up a custom menu.

They are what Tigtog was posting about ..

All is working, so all is well.

    David ??
