Try using Firefox with the Firebug add-on for this kind of CSS troubleshooting. Or use whatever developer tool is available in your web browser.

Thanks esmi, Used Firebug to inspect the code and find classes, etc.
That is the only thing I know how to use in Firebug. Is there something else in there I need to use?

It’s just a case of getting the specificity right. header h1.site-title should do it.

h1.site-title did not do it.
but tried variaations and found that

.site-title a {} did the trick.

??

I went back and tried
header h1.site-title
and it works as well
