Changing File Permissions an Idiots Guide Please

  • Hello
    can anyone explain how to change the file permissions so that I can make a few changes to the style sheets and not get the following message

    “You need to make this file writable before you can save your changes. See the Codex for more information.”

    Ive tried this a few times with disastrous consequences i.e. WP-admin
    no longer works
