    Hello–

We have noticed an issue where when we change our downloadable file that we sell, it revokes the purchasers rights to download the file. All we’re doing is updating the file, the user should still have rights to download it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Does the new file have exactly the same file name? Can you explain the steps you are taking to update the file?

    Thanks for responding, Dustin.

The file does not have exactly the same name, as we keep older versions for archival purposes.

After uploading the new file, we find the product we’re editing, then click on ‘Choose File’ to select the new file.

If you are editing a download file row (changing the name, file URL or both), the permissions are in tact.

But if you add a new download file row, then only new customers will have access to the files:

That’s not what we’re experiencing. The only way we have been able to keep the file permissions in tact is using the exact same filename.

What version of WooCommerce are you using?

    Using 3.2.6

Not sure if it’s useful or not, but the error message our users get if their access has been removed is: file defined go to shop

@bsteeletx is this still reproducible with 3.4.1?

Not sure. Since we discovered the issue, we only do it when we absolutely have to, because otherwise, we’ll have to regenerate download permissions for 100+ users. Next time we have to do it, I’ll respond with an update.

And as soon as I posted that, we came upon a situation where we had to do it (figures).

All is working as intended! Thank you!
