Changing displayed username

Hi, for some reason, whenever i get a new member on my site, their first name is displayed instead of their username as a default. With all of my members, i have had to manually change their name using the drop-down box in the admin panel, but is there any way to make sure that everyone has their username displayed as a default instead of their actual name?
