Changing default Image in Themes 2011

    Newbie here……
    Reading as much as I can and retaining as much as I can.
    Will be trying out my first WP install after my first one failed miserably cuz I didn’t know what I was doing. Can’t say I do now, but here goes my question.

    When I install Themes, say Twenty-Eleven, I would like to change the default Image.

    First, is this even possible ?
    Second, how do I do this.
    Do I FTP my jpeg file to somewhere, then how to I tell it to display it instead of the default 2011 Image ?

    it is possible for Twenty Eleven, and some other themes, but not generally.

    dashboard – appearance – headers – upload header image
