Changing Content Widths in a WP Theme

  • Hi. First time using these and a bit of a novice so forgive me if this is in the wrong place. I couldn’t find anything that helped so i thought i would ask.

    Here is my current site https://www.gamertime.co.uk

    The homepage itself is a “latest posts” page that updates as i post things. I have been using the index.php file when i have been doing any editing, as thats what it seems is the only file that really does anything to that page.

    My issue is – The content in between the primary and content sidebars is a bit small. I would like to make it wider so i can have a better looking list of posts. At the minute it seems a little skinny as a site.

    I am using the TwentyFourteen WP theme.

    Hi There!

    An easy (not perfect) workaround, choose a theme that gives you the width you need.

    Another option is to use themes that allow you to set content width from the admin area.

    Another option is to modify the style.css of your theme to adjust the width. I would suggest this method only if you know CSS well enough.

    Have you tried something with CSS already? Because when I test, I see the width 100px less than usual for some reason.

    i was hoping there was a CSS option, i cant seem to find the code i need to change though to make the content width bigger.

    From what i have found out. Because its an updating homepage and not static i need to update index.php? Though i could be wrong

    You should be looking in the style.css file. I am not sure how this will affect your responsive design..

    i originally thought that was the case. But im not really sure which part of the code to edit
