Changing colours of slideshow background, arrows etc

Hi,
First off love the theme.
Is there a way that I can alter the colour on the background of the slideshow? The skins are great but what we are looking for with this site is a plain(ish) framwork – white and grey, with pink background. The one I currently have is ok but the links are super dark and also the arrows on the slideshow are blue – which doesn’t fit at all.

Was thinking of upgrading but looking around the upgrade site – it seems that there are only additional skins rather than individual colour options…

is there also a way to remove the text ‘comments are closed’ at the bottom of each post?
