Changing Body Background Color

Hello,
I am building a website for a client, and my HTML and CSS Skills aren’t necessarily tip top. I’m kind of learning as I go along. any way, I’m trying to change the body colour on this theme I’m using but no matter what I try in the CSS style sheet nothing changes. Any tips please?
