The only solution I discovered so far is that when you want the order of authors to stay the way you want it, you have to change it in quick edit (in full edit it comes back to default order, so remember to always change it in quick edit).

This link from the Automaticc Git repository has info on a fix. Hopefully our plugin authors will put a fix in soon.
