Is there a way to change which author label appears (for example “Written by” or “Edited by” or the same thing in another language) based on which category the post is in? So that for example posts in English would say “written by” and posts in Spanish would say “escrito por”?

The page I need help with: [log in to see the link]

  • Hello @blozzle

Yep, this should be definitely possible using your favourite multi language software. Most of these options include a “string translation” feature, which is used to modify these content strings.

We have a getting started guide here – https://creativethemes.com/blocksy/video-tutorials/advanced-tutorials/translating-content-strings/ – that exemplifies how to do this using WPML. But all other multi language tools should have very similar options.

    Hope this helps!

    Thanks.

One more addition to this. This workflow will only work if your website is set up to have multiple languages.

Unfortunately, if your website has only one language and posts are in various languages all piled up together, this won’t be achievable.

    Thanks.

Okay thanks. Yes at the moment I just use categories to divide the posts of different languages. I realize that using a real multilingual system is better, but my site is already set up and I don’t want to change everything, especially seeing as many of the Spanish pages are already ranking. Thanks for looking into it, though.

    Hi @blozzle

I understand, but sadly there’s no way around this. It would be impossible to detect which posts are in a specific language and show another string.

Taxonomy detection isn’t recommended here, as it can get wonky once you start adding/removing lots of them.

Sorry, but I really do think a multi lingual system would work better for you. You can always 301 redirect the old URLs and they should be fine. ??

    Thanks.

Thanks, that’s probably what I will do, down the road.
