• Firstly let me say that I am a complete novice to site building. That said, I have managed to do reasonable well so far. My problem is how the single product page is displayed. Currently it shows Large picture on left, Product name, price, add to basket, and pay options on the right. Underneath the main picture it shows the description, then related products. I would like it to show the description on the right under the price and before ‘add to basket’ and to remove the pay options. Is there a way to change this? I’ve tried amending this template but it continues to add the description at the bottom of the page despite trying to delete it.

Also when it shows all my products there is an ‘add to basket’ tab under each item which I’d like to remove.

  • Hi @emenay

Thank you for reaching out — we’re happy to help!

    Changes to Single Product page

Could you please provide us with a screenshot, so that we can see what you are describing, along with a product’s URL for investigating further?

If you don’t already have a screenshot service installed, https://snipboard.io is a good option – for uploading it there, and sharing the link here afterward.
There is also a walkthrough guide here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/make-a-screenshot/

We look forward to your response.

I hope I’ve done this right

Hey, @emenay, thanks for the screenshot!

    to remove the pay options.

This is something you can probably set up on the payment gateway settings.

The instructions to do this may vary depending on the plugins you are using.

If you go to WooCommerce > Settings > Payments, you will see the list of payment gateways you are using. If you click on it’s name, you will see the settings.
For most plugins, you would see there the settings for the Express Checkouts (which are those buttons), and you should be able to choose not to show them on the single product page.

If you have any trouble finding the settings for the Express Checkout, please reach out to the support of the plugin you are using so they can share the exact steps ??

Also when it shows all my products there is an ‘add to basket’ tab under each item which I’d like to remove.

It is not possible to do this by default. You can achieve this by using either a third-party plugin or custom code.

Since you mentioned you just started, I suggest using a plugin to make things easier ??

You can search for “woocommerce remove add to cart“, or something similar, on the Plugins > Add New section of your dashboard or on a search engine like Google, for example.

Please note that we do not provide support for third-party plugins, so it is good to check the plugin thoroughly to see if it is reliable. You can find more about this in this guide.

I would like it to show the description on the right under the price and before ‘add to basket’

This is also not possible to do by default. What you could do was add the information on the short description area instead, as it seems there’s where you want it to show, correct?

If you really want to switch it up, I suggest using a plugin that lets you modify the product page.

You can search for “woocommerce edit product page“, or something similar.

    I hope this was clarifying.

Please let us know if there’s anything else we can do to help or if you have any questions.

    Have a wonderful day!

I have tried to do this but it only shows an excerpt and still puts the full description at the bottom even if I have left this blank

    Hey, @emenay!

This is something that depends on the theme.

Some themes allow for the short description to be as long as you want, but others, usually Full Site Editing themes, have a character limit on it.

So, if your theme has the character limit, I suggest using a plugin to change things up ??

Is there a plug in you can suggest? As I said I am a complete novice and struggling to find something that is simple to use

    Hey, @emenay!

We don’t have a plugin that does this on our marketplace, so there’s not a plugin option we offer support or can vouch for.

I searched and found StoreCustomizer, which seems to fit your needs.

I also found this post, with some other options.

Please note that, as I mentioned, we do not provide support for third-party plugins, so it is good to check the plugin thoroughly to see if it is reliable. You can find more about this in this?guide.

    — Be sure you have a good backup in place of your full site and database. You can ask your host for backup functionality or you can consider using a service like Jetpack. If something goes wrong, you will be able to restore it.

    — It is important to consider as well a staging functionality in case you would not like to touch your production site (you can ask your host if they offer this service), or you can use WP Staging for quickly spinning up a new test site. This way you can safely test plugins to see if they are a good fit before adding them to your website.

Please let us know if there’s anything else we can do to help or if you have any questions.

    Have a wonderful day!
